Islamorada is an incorporated village in Monroe County, Florida, in the upper Florida Keys between Miami and Key West. Its name, often translated as "Purple Isle," was given by the Spanish, who first sighted the area in 1513, and the village was formally incorporated in 1997 as the Village of Islands. The village spans five islands: Tea Table Key, Lower Matecumbe Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Windley Key, and Plantation Key, along with the waters between them. The Overseas Highway, U.S. Route 1, threads through all five, making Islamorada both a destination and a waypoint along the Keys.
