East-Central Puerto Rico Municipality

Rentals in Juncos, PR

Welcome to Juncos, an east-central Puerto Rico municipality known as La Ciudad del Valenciano, where a cattle-ranch heritage meets a world-scale biopharmaceutical industry.

Juncos is a town and one of Puerto Rico's 78 municipalities, situated in the island's east-central interior west of the Caguas Valley. It is bordered by Gurabo and Canóvanas to the north, Carolina to the northeast, Las Piedras to the east, and San Lorenzo to the south — a position that places it within the commuting orbit of the larger Caguas metropolitan area while keeping its own distinct civic identity. The municipality is organized around the Río Valenciano and spreads across nine barrios plus Juncos barrio-pueblo, the downtown and administrative center. The town traces its origins to a cattle ranch known as Hatillo de los Juncos, part of the larger Hato del Valenciano. The Spanish colonial government approved the founding of the town on August 3, 1792, and the ranch-lands heritage is preserved in Juncos' two enduring nicknames — "La Ciudad del Valenciano" and "Los Mulos del Valenciano" — as well as in its coat of arms, which recalls the Hato del Valenciano and the green reeds, or juncos, that gave the town its name. Juncos is best known today as a center of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The Amgen facility in Juncos is the largest in that company's global manufacturing network, employing roughly 2,700 workers across multiple plants and producing more than two dozen biopharmaceutical products for export worldwide. That industrial base makes Juncos an economic anchor of east-central Puerto Rico, drawing a skilled technical workforce from across the region. Alongside the manufacturing economy, the town sustains a traditional civic life built around its central plaza, churches, and seasonal festivals, offering a blend of industrial employment and small-town Puerto Rican character.
